Harold and Belva Fadness

Belva Marie, the seventh child of Josiah and Augusta Casterton was born in Highland Twp., Winneshiek Co.

She married Harold Fadness and became parents of Edward Charles, David Alan, Julia Marie, Daniel Duane and Janet Marie.

Edward and Ruth Ann (Vick) have two children Eric and Hollie. Hollie Ann Fadness and Kevin Heron are parents of Lexi and Kevin Jr. David and Lynn (Bakken) have Troy, Travis, Alan, and Laura. Julie Marie (Fadness) and Raymond Quandahl are parents of Cory and Casey. Daniel Duane and Audrey (Schacht) have three children: Amanda, Jake, and Stephanie. Janet Marie and Joel Dansdill are parents of Joshua, Jared and Jillian.

Fagg, Charles J. and Arabella (Sydow) Ahern

Arabella Louise Sydow, daughter of Charles F. and Mary A. (Klein), was born 14 Apr 1884 in Conover, IA. She married her first husband James A. Ahern 20 Apr 1903 in Decorah, IA. James was born in Calmar, IA in 1882. He was living and working in Austin, MN in railroading prior to marriage to Arabella. His parents were John T and Catherine (Macguire) Ahern of Calmar. James’ father was born in IA and his mother was born in Ireland. James’ father worked as a telegraph operator while living in Calmar from 1880 until 1900.

Arabella experienced a dark tragedy at the age of 16. She was sexually assaulted one evening as she came out of a local store. The man was caught and put in the county jail. Arabella grew into a very beautiful young woman. She was judged as one of the top ten in a contest. Before the death of her father in 1902 she went off to college. However, she had ideas of her own. She spent her time and her father’s money at a “dude" ranch. She rode horses, toted pistols and used rattle snakes for target practice.

Arabella (Sydow) (Ahern) Fagg

Arabella's daughter Alma Margaret was born in Nov 1903 in Minnesota. The marriage to James Ahern was shortly dissolved. Alma lived with her Aunt Hedwig Novak during her early years. Arabella married her second husband Charles J. Fagg prior to 1914. Charles was born in Conover, IA 7 Jul 1888.

Arabella and Charles had a daughter and son: Marguarite Louise and Charles Orwin. In the 1920's Arabella and Charles moved to Newark, NH. Charles served as chairman of the Newark Rationing Board during World War II. He was the manager of the Commerce and Trade Bureau of Newark Chamber of Commerce. He eventually became president of Newark Central Warehouse Co. He died 28 Jun 1956 in Newark, NJ. Arabella died in Titusville, FL 7 Oct 1977 at the age of 93.

Marguarite Louise (17 Jul 1914, Minneapolis, MN - 9 Jan 1975) married John F. Chadwick. They had two children: John Scott and Kathleen Gail. John Scott married Sherry Ann Robinson. They have one child: Audrey Ann.
